Bollywood rapper-singer Badshah has openly extended his support to comedian Samay Raina amid the ongoing India’s Got Latent controversy. The rapper’s gesture came during his recent performance at Parul University in Vadodara, Gujarat, where he made a bold statement, further fueling the conversation surrounding Raina’s backlash.
During his concert, Badshah hyped up the audience, thanking them for their energy. However, towards the end of his performance, he unexpectedly shouted, “Free Samay Raina!”—a move that immediately caught the attention of fans and social media users.
A video of the moment quickly went viral, with netizens reacting in surprise. One user commented, “Ain’t no way Badshah yelled ‘Free Samay Raina’!” The shoutout comes at a crucial time, as Samay Raina has been facing severe backlash, leading to the cancellation of multiple comedy shows in Gujarat.
The controversy erupted after a clip from India’s Got Latent, a show hosted by Samay Raina, featured Ranveer Allahbadia making a controversial “sex with parents” joke. The joke was widely condemned as offensive, sparking outrage on social media.
As criticism escalated, Samay Raina took a step back and removed all episodes of India’s Got Latent from his YouTube channel. In an emotional social media post, he wrote:
“Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all India’s Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you.”
The backlash had a significant impact on Raina’s career, forcing him to cancel four scheduled comedy shows in Gujarat:
- April 17 – Surat
- April 18 – Vadodara
- April 19 & 20 – Ahmedabad
While the controversy continues to unfold, Badshah’s support is a rare instance of a mainstream artist standing by a comedian facing public outrage. Whether this will help shift public perception or intensify the debate remains to be seen.
