A chaotic scene unfolded in Newark, Delaware, when a U-Haul van hit multiple pedestrians, killing one and injuring several others. It was a crash you can’t ignore.
On Tuesday afternoon, the U-Haul was spotted speeding through the University of Delaware area. Police say the driver had been on the run, dodging officers after fleeing an earlier stop. But things quickly turned deadly when the van plowed into two pedestrians standing on a street corner, then crashed into parked cars.
It didn’t stop there. The driver and passenger kept fleeing until the van finally ground to a halt, but not before leaving a trail of wreckage. One victim was killed instantly, and another seriously injured. Six others were hurt but thankfully not in critical condition.
Cops say the suspects didn’t make it easy on them. The driver was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, and the passenger was quickly cuffed without incident. Authorities are still piecing together the events, but the crash has already shaken up the local community.
The University of Delaware has assured everyone that there’s no ongoing threat, though the investigation continues. Police have closed down a section of East Main Street as they work to figure out exactly what went down. One thing’s for sure: this deadly crash will be a hot topic for a while.
