Say it ain’t so — Filipino showbiz just lost a real one. Ricky Davao, veteran actor, director, and all-around screen icon, has died at 63.

Yeah, it sucks. And yeah, it’s real.

Confirmed by Viva Entertainment and his daughter Ara Davao, Ricky passed away peacefully on May 1 after a fight with stage 4 cancer. He was surrounded by his kids and loved ones when he took his final bow.

If you’ve watched Philippine TV in, well, any decade since the ’80s, you’ve seen Ricky do his thing. From soap villains to stage icons, this guy didn’t just act — he devoured roles. He even played a version of Bongbong Marcos onstage back when political theater was as bold as his eyebrows.

Let’s not forget his turn as the baddie in Mula Sa Puso — because seriously, name a Filipino who didn’t scream at their screen during that run. The man brought drama, and we loved him for it.

He started out dancing (yeah, dancing), then danced his way into hearts, screens, and awards. Not many can pull off that kind of glow-up.

He was married to actress Jackie Lou Blanco — showbiz royalty runs deep here, folks. They had three kids and even reunited on-screen in 2021. Talk about mature co-parenting goals.

Just days before Ricky’s passing, Jackie Lou’s mom, Pilita Corrales, also passed. It’s been a rough week for the Blanco-Davao clan — and Filipino entertainment in general.

But Ricky? He left a legacy with style. The kind that doesn’t fade when the lights go out.

Rest easy, legend. The credits may have rolled — but the reruns hit different now.
