The COVID-19 website just got a serious makeover — and it’s turning heads. The Biden-era public health hub, once packed with info on vaccines, free tests, and safety tips, has been stripped down and replaced with a new focus: blaming China.
The updated covid.gov homepage now leads with a bold “Lab Leak” headline and dives straight into the controversial theory that the coronavirus came from a Wuhan lab. There’s even a section highlighting former President Donald Trump’s early warnings and framing him as the guy who “got it right” all along.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, once the face of America’s pandemic response, is also in the crosshairs. The site accuses him of pushing the natural origin theory while ignoring mounting questions about lab safety protocols in China. President Biden doesn’t escape unscathed either — the site implies his administration downplayed the lab theory and misled the public.
What’s missing? Pretty much all the practical tools people were using — like ordering free tests or finding vaccine locations. It’s gone from “here’s how to stay safe” to “here’s who to blame.”
The shift aligns with the Trump team’s long-standing belief that the virus came from a lab accident, something they’ve been saying since early 2020. And now, with Trump gearing up for another White House run, the website is doubling down on that message.
The CIA recently said there might be a lab connection — but only with “low confidence.” So, while there’s no solid proof yet, the theory is definitely back in the spotlight. And as expected, China’s not happy. Officials there have pushed back, saying the U.S. is turning a scientific issue into a political football.
So where does this leave Americans trying to get reliable info on COVID? That’s the big question. For now, covid.gov is less about guidance and more about grievances.
