What did Vladimir Putin say?

Vladimir Putin said he hopes Ukraine will also adhere to the ceasefire rules announced by Russia and choose the path of peace. This decision was made for humanitarian reasons considering the Easter festival.

However, Putin has instructed army chief Valery Gerasimov that the military should be ready if Ukraine does not follow or violates the rules during the ceasefire. The news agency Reuters quoted Putin as saying to Gerasimov at a meeting in the Kremlin.

Pressure from the US

Putin’s announcement of the ceasefire comes as US President Donald Trump continues to push for an early end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. There were reports that Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were upset over the slow pace of Russia-Ukraine peace talks. On Friday, the two leaders said that if there is no result soon, the United States will withdraw from the talks.
