Hold onto your marshmallows, Jersey — because Barnegat is blazing, and not in a “bonfire party at the beach” kind of way.
A massive wildfire just exploded across Ocean County, and it’s not playing nice. We’re talkin’ 1,200 acres up in smoke — with the Garden State Parkway completely shut down between Exits 63 and 80. Yeah, THAT serious.
Mandatory evacuations? Already rolling. Cops are knocking doors on Wells Mills Road like it’s an emergency pizza delivery. Folks in Windward, Mirage, Pheasant Run, and a bunch of other neighborhoods are being told to bounce — fast.
The NJ Forest Fire Service is out there battling the beast, and they’re working around the clock. So far? Zero percent containment. That’s right — nada, zip, zilch.
And in true Jersey fashion, traffic is officially wrecked. Besides the Parkway, Route 532 and Jones Road are also shut tighter than a bag of flaming Cheetos.
Thick smoke is billowing through the skies, visible for miles. Locals say it’s like living in a Stranger Things fog scene — minus the Demogorgon, hopefully.
Oh — and the cause of all this? Still under investigation. But whatever sparked it, the flames are now threatening 16 structures and forcing people to pack up and go.
Shelters have popped up, including one at United Methodist Church in Waretown. So if you’re in the area, stay safe, stay updated… and maybe keep the marshmallows in the cabinet for now.
