Terrifying scenes unfolded in Israel on Sunday as a missile launched from Yemen slammed into the area near Ben Gurion Airport, the country’s busiest travel hub—triggering mass panic, injuries, and a sudden shutdown of air traffic.
The missile, fired by Iran-backed Houthi rebels, landed dangerously close to Terminal 3, ripping open a crater and injuring at least eight people, according to emergency services.
Passengers waiting to take off were left frozen in fear. Flights were immediately canceled, diverted, or grounded as airport officials rushed to contain the chaos.

And it wasn’t just local. International carriers including Lufthansa, Wizz Air, and Air Europa canceled operations. An Air India flight en route to Tel Aviv turned around mid-air, rerouting to Abu Dhabi before the airline suspended all flights to Israel until May 6.
So yeah, forget your vacation plans—this was no minor incident.
The Houthis didn’t even try to hide it. They proudly claimed responsibility and, in a wild twist, bragged about using a hypersonic ballistic missile. That’s right—missiles that fly faster than sound and are notoriously hard to intercept.
In a chilling statement, the Houthis said the attack was “in solidarity with Gaza,” tying the strike directly to the ongoing war that’s been tearing through the region.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz didn’t hold back, vowing harsh retaliation and warning that “whoever harms Israel will pay the price.” Prime Minister Netanyahu immediately called an emergency meeting with military chiefs.
Let’s be clear—this wasn’t just another flare-up. This was a direct hit near the heart of Israel’s infrastructure, and the fallout has just begun.
From airports to airstrikes, this war isn’t staying on the ground anymore.
