Pack up the cotton candy and say goodbye to the coasters — Six Flags America is shutting down after the 2025 season, and yep, this is real life.
The theme park in Bowie, Maryland — home to wild rides like Superman: Ride of Steel and Batwing — is going bye-bye for good. Final day of operation? November 2, 2025. Mark your calendars and start your scream therapy now.
The company made it official this week, saying the closure is part of a bigger strategy to “realign the park portfolio.” Translation: this park doesn’t make the cut anymore.
CEO Richard Zimmerman said straight up, “Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor are not a strategic fit with the company’s long-term growth plan.” Ouch. Corporate breakup vibes.
But don’t worry — if you’ve already snagged your 2025 season pass, you can still get your adrenaline fix all year long. They’re honoring all tickets until the very last loop-de-loop.
Opened way back in 1974, the park has had more identities than a Hollywood actor — starting as The Wildlife Preserve, then Wild World, Adventure World, and finally Six Flags America in 1999. Talk about a theme park glow-up.
And yes, there’s still plenty of time to ride everything one last time — including those massive water slides at Hurricane Harbor. Just don’t forget your flip-flops.
As for the land? It’s up for redevelopment. So don’t be surprised if in a few years you’re cruising past where Superman used to fly… and it’s just condos and coffee shops.
So long, Six Flags America. Thanks for the thrills, the sunburns, and the $8 lemonades.
